7 things to do in Brisbane this Valentine’s Day
Looking for some inspiration to shower bae with some lovin’ this year? From old school courtship, to some more contemporary quirky gestures of love… we’ll help you woo your boo!
Northshore Harbour Valentines Package
Nothing screams romance as much as an intimate dinner by the river with your better half (unless you’re the self proclaimed better half). The set menu ($65pp) is soft on your wallet but will have you drooling. With renditions of seared diver scallops and slow cooked beef tenderloins to choose from, this two course meal, followed by petit fours will blow you away. Northshore Harbour is an easy 15 minute drive from the city, so you’ll be getting away from the bustle of the V-day crowds. Intimately, set against the twinkly fairy lights and gorgeous Harbour sunset, your surrounds will really set the mood for the rest of your night and with a sparkling wine or beer on the house, what more could you want?
Sunset kayak and meal
Looking for something a little less traditional than a candle lit dinner? Head down to Riverlife at the base of the iconic Kangaroo Point cliffs for a paddle before dinner and drinks! Mosey down the river taking in the gorgeous views of your bae and Brisbane, watch as the skyline and river twinkle to life. Upon your return, you and your boo-thang can enjoy a spectacular BBQ buffet and wash it down with a complimentary bottle of wine as you soak in the balmy twilight. With sessions running from 5:15pm to 7:00pm, the rest of the night is your for the taking.
Picnic in a Park
If you’re on a budget, this option is calling your name! Sprawl out on a luscious patch of grass and spread out your spread. This one is all yours – customise your menu to your heart’s content, but be sure to make it a bit more special than your average picnic of cheese and crackers. If you want to be sinking some bevs while you’re at it, head to the following BYO friendly parks: New Farm Park, Celebrations Lawn or Lake Precinct at the Roma Street Parklands, Riverside Green and Picnic Islands at South Bank Parklands. TOP TIP: All of the above parks have public BBQ’s for you to sizzle away on, but set up earlier to snag one for your snags.
If you’ve got a bit more time (and money) on your hands, take your stud muffin or sugar pie to Tangalooma for the weekend! With the island as your playground, you won’t find yourself short of things to do. Spend your holiday your way, whether you want to get your adrenaline (and heart) pumping, take in the scenes, or relax, Adventure Moreton Island has you covered for all things on Moreton! From snorkeling, kayaking, segwaying, jet boating and parasailing to illuminated boat tours and massages, you and your loved one will be lapping up the good times.
Let Boo and Booze be your muse
Whether you want to do this in a class setting, or set up your easel at home, this one will make your Valentine’s Day a memorable one! Paint and sip to your heart’s content. If you’re opting for the classroom, there are countless boozy paint sessions available to you. Some popular ones are: Cork and Chroma, Brush and Barrel and Paint n Pour. Be sure to jump online to check out what you’ll be gracing your canvas with, as each session is different (Cork and Chroma has a ‘paint your partner’ session for Feb 14).
If you’re a bit canvas shy, or just want a more intimate setting, painting at home will be a breeze. Grab a canvas and some paints from your local (most stores, even Bunnings, have you covered), choose a piece of art to copy, set up a Bob Ross tutorial or just go buck-wild with your creativity. This quirky idea is one you’ll treasure for years to come, especially since you’ll have the glorious artwork to remember it by.
Couples Cooking Class
What’s cookin’ good lookin’? It’ll you and your darling if you go for this option. They say the way to a man heart is through his stomach. Since it’s 2019 and we’re all about gender equality, this applies to you sweet ladies too! Get busy (in the kitchen) and sign up for a mouth watering cooking class. This will make for a fun and rewarding night out, and you’ll walk away with some new recipes under your belt which you can whip out to impress bae at a later date. We recommend Golden Pig in New Farm, Hundred Acre Bar in St Lucia and James Street Cooking in New Farm; some of which are hosting an extra special class for Valentines Day.
Yatala Drive-In Movie
Looking for something a bit more low key? Make like Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson and drive on in to a drive-in movie! Brisbanites, head to the iconic Yatala Drive-In for your flick and don’t forget that you can BYO food and drinks. Yatala plays new release movies and screen sessions start from 7pm to 9pm, so you’ve got plenty of options. Snuggle into bae from the boot of your car, or bring some blankets and pillows to spread out on the grass. Added bonus: all you dog owners can bring along your lil balls of fluff for date-night.
