Your bestie got a ring!? And you get to stand next to her? Incredible! There are so many amazing things about being a Maid of Honour. From the dress shopping and the cake tasting to getting ready on the day and dancing all night long! We find there are two types of people when it comes to organising hens parties, “oh no! I haven’t got a clue” or “my entire life has been leading to this moment”. So whether your MOH one or two, hopefully this will help you with some ideas!
So you need to host a Hens Party? Advice from an Event Manager!15, February 2019
ASK THE BRIDE WHAT SHE WANTS
You want to keep it a surprise?! AMAZING! But you can absolutely still get some ground rules set before you start organising! Does she want it to be low key and PG rate for Grandma? Or does she want PG in the morning and a whole lot naughtier in the evening! Does she want to stay in Brisbane or are you going to whisk her away!? Hit her with the question “if you could have one thing for your hens party, what would it be?” Maybe she’ll answer with “plenty of cheese and wine” or surprise you with “a strip show”.
GET THAT GUEST LIST
Confirm with the bride who she wants there! If she’s having two parts, make sure she specifies who is invited to which part! There’s nothing worse that forgetting to invite someone important to the bride and having to scramble last minute to get them there! Don’t worry, you’ll be doing all the inviting, she can just cover names!
BOOK IN ADVANCE
As soon as you’ve decided a plan, get booking! Make sure you get accommodation (if needed) and activities sorted as your first priority! Book into that morning tea or confirm that paint & sip class! If you’re still waiting on a few people to confirm, give the venue your very best guestimate and let them know it could increase by a few people. They’ll give you a timeframe you need to confirm final numbers by.
DON’T PLAN EVERY MINUTE
It’s a party, not an itinerary! Leave time to relax and get ready for activities, it’s nice to be able to have a minute to sit and have some bubbles and some girlie chat! You don’t need to keep everyone entertained at all hours of the day! Have a couple of games up your sleeve in case you need some conversation starters! It’s all about going with the flow and enjoying yourself, it’s your besties “last” hoorah as a “miss” after all!
YOU CAN’T ALWAYS PLEASE EVERYONE
If you get stuck with that one person who just can’t seem to get on board, don’t sweat it! Focus on having a great time and all the positive vibes that are around you! If the hen wants to go out, you’re going out! If she wants to go to a dingy (AKA incredible) karaoke bar and bust out some old school Spice Girls and Backstreet boys, you’ll be right there with her! This night is about her, that’s all that matters!
ENJOY EVERY MINUTE!
When you organise something you can get wrapped up in the details and the stress of pulling it off. When you’re an event manager that’s ok, you don’t have to enjoy the events you throw, just make sure they go off without a hitch! But as a MOH you have to enjoy yourself too (pretty sure there’s a law somewhere about that)! Don’t sweat the small stuff, don’t get wrapped up in pleasing everyone and most of all, always have a glass of wine in your hand!
