BRIDAL PARTY 101

Bestowed with the honour of being a part of your besties I Do Crew? Helping her relinquish her single status for good is a big responsibility. Here’s some handy tips for how to be the ultimate wing-woman on her special day.

WHATEVER SHE SAYS GOES

Let your bride be selfish. It is HER day, so the style of bridesmaid dress, the timeline, groomsman pairing and who she surrounds herself with, is all down to her. Honesty can beexecuted in an eloquent way and don’t try to make the day about you.

LET HER VENT FREELY

There are a lot of emotions, opinions and family dynamics surrounding a wedding. Your bride might need a little emotional support to get her through the trials and trepidations involved this journey. Be patient and understanding, and don’t pass any judgement. Everyone feels better after a cry and a vent with a bestie. Be ready with a tissue and touchup makeup!

MAKE SURE SHE HAS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT ON THE DAY

You want your bride to enjoy her day and that means she shouldn’t have to worry about any tasks or unforeseen issues. Be organised; make a list of every little task that needs to be undertaken on the day, down to the most mundane of duties. Make executive decisions in the best interest of your bride and make sure everything has been delegated out to the bridal party beforehand.

P.S: The Event Manager and you should be besties!

YOUR CLUTCH IS YOUR EMERGENCY BRIDAL KIT

Bobby pins, mints, tissues, deodorant… anything you can think of that she might need in the last minute before she walks down the aisle or in between photos should be stashed in your clutch. Pre-empt her needs and whip those essentials out at the slightest necessity. The Pharmacy travel section is a goldmine for this stuff!

‘A HAPPY BRIDESMAID MAKES A HAPPY BRIDE’

No matter what happens, your catchline for the day is ‘everything is going to be perfect.’ Life can throw all sorts of things at the bride on her wedding day, things that are out of her control and that just escalate any pre-existing nerves. Make the best of the situation and pep talk the hell out of your girl. Storm clouds won’t stop him from saying ‘I do.’

MAKE SURE SHE EATS

Brides are extremely busy on their wedding day with things like having their hair and makeup done perfectly, sticking to photographer timelines and spending time with each and every one of the guests. You need to make sure your bride has sustenance to get through the day. Keep some of her favourite snacks on hand and make sure the canapes are circled
around her way.

The overarching responsibility of a bridesmaid is to support your bride in every way necessary; always aim to make her smile a little brighter. Don’t ever forget why you’re there and what you are celebrating. You’re making memories; be everyone’s squad goals while you do it!
